In the chilly Atlantic surf east of the Bethany Beach bandstand late Monday afternoon, a group of 23 medical students completed a 3,700-mile journey that began 51 days ago in San Diego, Calif.

Ride for World Health is a national, nonprofit organization which advocates for improvements in the quality and accessibility of global healthcare. Each year, the group uses this cross-country bike ride as a vehicle of communication, R4WH addresses this issue through political advocacy, fundraising and its unique Coast-to-Coast Lecture Series.

They were our guests last night – as they were at the end of their trip last year. Four ResortQuest rental homeowners graciously donated their Sea Colony vacation rental units on the oceanfront to house these weary travelers – in cozy beds, as opposed to a gymnasium or a van, for one of the few times during their long trip.

Congratulations to these young people who put their feet where their mouths are – a bike ride from sea to shining sea is certainly a special kind of commitment.

The Rehoboth Beach Running Company is offering Free Gait Analysis at the Sea Colony Fitness Center on Thursday, December 13, from 8 - 11:45 a.m. and 4:30 - 8:45 p.m.

Russ Evans, owner of Rehoboth Beach Running Company, will perform the gait analysis. He will analyze foot and ankle structure and then video tape the participant walking or running on the treadmill. By analyzing the individual’s feet, ankles and treadmill video, Evans will identify the individual’s specific gait and determine if they have any over pronation issues. Based on his findings, Evans will then provide the participant with a list of running shoes that would best meet the individual’s needs.

*** PLEASE REMEMBER TO BRING YOUR RUNNING or WALKING SHOES. ***

Space is limited. Sign up at the fitness center, or e-mail Sea Colony Activities Manager Amanda Savage.

Note: This analysis is not for purposes of diagnosing foot and ankle problems associated with one’s gait. That can only be performed by medically licensed and qualified foot and ankle specialists and/or professional.

Sea Colony – Bethany Beach, Delaware – October 2, 2007 – Tennis players from Sea Colony, just south of Bethany Beach, Del., won the men’s open division national title at the United States Tennis Association (USTA) League championships in Las Vegas, Nev., held Sept. 28-30.

Captained by Dr. Dave Marshall, the Sea Colony team, representing USTA Middle States (consisting of Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware), claimed the national title by beating USTA Midwest (representing Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan and Wisconsin) in the finals.

The USTA League is the world’s largest recreational tennis league. The 27th annual championship represents the highest level of competition in the USTA League, attracting more than 295,000 participants from 17 USTA Sections.

Sea Colony’s open championship roster included Marshall, Graydon D. Oliver, Sebastian Faulk, Mike Duquette, Andrew Myer, David McPherson, Bryan Knepper, W. Russell. Ramsey, Matthew Cloer, Davidson Kozlowski, Brint Morrow, Jonas E. Jarvholm, Baskar Anwalt, Alexander Golub, Vijaya K. Kannan, Ellis Ferreira, Ryan Valentime, Gavin P. O’Connell, Craig Rubin, Kris Nonnenmacher, Wayne Odesnik, K.K. Crenshaw, Shannon Buck, Craig Rubin and Peter Taylor.

The Sea Colony men’s 5.5 team, consisting largely of players from last year’s national championship-winning 5.0 squad, reached the semifinals of this year’s tournament. Its championship run fell short with its loss to Midwest, which lost later in the finals to eventual champion USTA Southern (representing Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas, Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina).

The men’s 5.5 team included Shannon Buck, Mike Duquette, Peter Taylor, Marshall, Craig Rubin, Ryan Valentime, Bryan Knepper, Andrew Myer, Vijaya K. Kannan, Baskar Anwalt, W. Russell. Ramsey, Kris Nonnenmacher, K.K. Crenshaw, Brint Morrow, Gavin P. O’Connell, Davidson Kozlowski, Alexander Golub, Richard F. Kent and Adam J. Short.

Sea Colony, ranked among Tennis Magazine’s “50 Best U.S. Tennis Resorts” and No. 19 in the world by Tennis Resorts Online, is a community of 2,202 privately-owned condominiums, town homes and single family homes offering a half-mile of private guarded beach; 12 pools (two indoor), two fitness centers, year-round security and activities for all ages, as well as world-class tennis facilities, including 34 courts (four indoor and 14 Har-Tru), and more than two dozen teaching professionals.

Now entering its 24th year, the event draws hundreds of competitors and raises hundreds of thousands of dollars to fulfill the wishes of scores of Mid-Atlantic children battling serious illness. Athletes will take to the sea to swim the 1.5k course along Sea Colony’s oceanfront. Emerging from the surf, competitors will then tackle a 36k bike trek through Bethany Beach and other coastal areas. The triathlon ends with a 10k run on Coastal Highway, with the Delaware Beaches surf just feet away.

Triathletes can compete in individual and team contests. Online registration for the event will soon be available at the Mid -Atlantic Chapter’s Web site – midatlantic.wish.org – and participants can sign up there for e-mail notification when the registration officially opens.
